SMU Draws Northern Iowa in Battle 4 Atlantis Opening Round

PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS (SMU) – SMU will face Northern Iowa in the opening round of the 2017 Battle 4 Atlantis. The game will tip at 8:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Nov. 22.

The Mustangs will play Arizona or North Carolina State on Thursday, before playing Villanova, Tennessee, Purdue or Western Kentucky in Friday’s placement round. The tournament will take place in Atlantis’ Imperial Arena.

The 2016-17 Mustangs finished No. 11 in the Associated Press poll after winning the American Athletic Conference season and tournament championships en route to the NCAA Tournament. It was the second championship sweep for SMU in the past three seasons. The Mustangs won a program-record 30 games (30-5) that included going 17-1 in conference play and 18-0 in Moody Coliseum. SMU had two of the longest winning streaks in program history at 16 games (third) and 10 games (tied fourth) in a stretch that saw 26 victories in 27 outings.

The first day of the 2017 Battle 4 Atlantis welcomes four games with the below matchups:
Game 1: Purdue vs. Tennessee (11:00 a.m. CT)
Game 2: Villanova vs. Western Kentucky (1:30 p.m. CT)
Game 3: North Carolina State vs. Arizona (6:00 p.m. CT)
Game 4: SMU vs. Northern Iowa (8:30 p.m. CT)
