Season rests on Goalie Ben Bishop’s
big shoulders

I scouted Dallas Stars newest netminder, Ben Bishop as an 18 year
old playing junior hockey for our very own Texas Tornadoes. At 6′ 7”,
he didn’t allow many goals.. leading the team to another NAHL Jr
Championship. His huge frame was intimidating as long as he stayed on
his skates. Bishop is an exceptional puck handler for a Goalie, a
trait that new Dallas Stars retreaded head coach, Ken Hitchcock loves
in his netminder… especially with the Stars youthful defensive corps!
His career in the NHL has posts over 270 games played with a
strong 2.32 Goals Against Average. The big question is why did Tampa
Bay drop him from #1 netminder plus they practically gave him away to
a struggling Los Angeles Kings who won’t resign him as an unrestricted
free agent. The Kings sent his negotiating rights to Dallas for a
lowly 4th round amateur draft pick.
In the pre-season opener Bishop allowed three goals on 12 shots in
his first two periods as a Dallas Star. Finnish Veteran Goalie Kari
Lehtonen will be once again rotating in the nets.
