NHL will return to Houston
The National Hockey League has made inroads to Houston Rockets
owner, Tilman Fertitta to bring an NHL Franchise to Houston. For
years, the NHL had attempted to return Major League Hockey to Houston,
but former Rockets owner Les Alexander (who controlled the Toyota
Center) never had an interest. Houston was a hotbed for Major League
Hockey in the Early 70’s as the WHA Aeros dominated the league with 2
Avco Championship Trophys. Houston brought All-Time NHL great, Mr.
Hockey, Gordie Howe out of retirement to play in Houston with his two
sons Mark and Marty.
According to Dallas Stars, Captain Jamie Benn, “I think that an
NHL Rivalry with Houston would be a natural fit.”
The Houston Franchisee would add a 32nd team to the NHL already
adding the Vegas Golden Knights this season. Seattle and Quebec City
were front runners for the next available franchisee but lack a solid
ownership to go with new Arenas.
