Is Bishop the answer in goal?
Ben Bishop is a big part of the Stars’ re-rack, as the 6-7
goalie was signed to a six-year contract to address a goals against
average that was 29th in the league and a save percentage that was
dead last. However, he’s off to a so-so start at 7-5-0 with a GAA that
ranks 18th at 2.67 and a save percentage that ranks 24th at .908.
That sort of mirrors the rest of this remodel. The Stars are
9-8-1 and sitting on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs are
concerned. And while free-agent acquisition Alexander Radulov is in
the middle of a nine-game point streak, other additions Martin Hanzal,
Marc Methot and Tyler Pitlick have either been hurt or struggling to
produce. And so, Thursday’s return of Bishop to Amalie Arena to face
his old Tampa Bay team allows an interesting study. His team has been
just as inconsistent. Coach Ken Hitchcock is frustrated on the road
“We should win. We’ve played a hell of alot of hockey game.”
Bishop has found himself in a similar place during a few of
these big losses. He has made spectacular saves, stopped breakaways,
stoned two-on-ones, but he has been beat bad too, costing the Stars
