Texas baseball coach David Pierce has been named Baseball
America’s 2018 College Coach of the Year after leading his team to a
regular-season Big 12 title and a Men’s College World Series
appearance.
Pierce, who just completed his second season at the helm of the
program, steered Texas to a 42-23 record on the year. With a sweep of
TCU on the final series of the season, Texas won the Big 12 Conference
regular-season championship for the first time since 2011. He was
later named Big 12 Coach of the Year.
After going 3-0 in the Austin Regional, the Longhorns hosted
Tennessee Tech in the NCAA Super Regional and took the series 2-1 over
the Eagles to send Texas back to the MCWS for a record 36th time.
The trip to Omaha was the first for Pierce and his staff and the BA
College Coach of the Year honor is also the first such honor for
Pierce in his eight seasons as a head coach.
