Klein, Knott and Sharp Named Big 12 Football Players of the Week
Collin Klein (K-State), Jake Knott (Iowa State) and Quinn Sharp (Oklahoma State) have been named Big 12 Football Players of the Week, as selected by a media panel. Klein (offense) picked up his third award of the season and fourth in his career. Collin Klein improved to 19-4 as a starting quarterback by leading No. 3 Kansas State to a 55-24 victory over No. 14 Texas Tech last Saturday. The Loveland, Colo., product went 19-of-26 for 233 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while he rushed for two scores and 83 yards on 12 carries. Klein has 49 career rushing touchdowns to extend his school record and tie for sixth in Big 12 history, while he pushed his career point total to 300, the second player in school history to hit the 300-point mark. The senior has led the Wildcats to five games of 50-plus points this season, including three in Big 12 play. In eight games this season, Klein has accounted for 28 touchdowns (16 rushing, 12 passing) to rank sixth nationally in touchdown responsibility, while he leads the Big 12 and ranks second nationally in pass efficiency (175.47).
Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
Jake Knott, Iowa State, LB, Sr, Waukee, Iowa
Jake Knott had 11 tackles and forced the 10th fumble of his career in Iowa State’s 35-21 victory over Baylor. His forced fumble killed a Baylor drive at the Iowa State goalline as the Cyclones held BU under 30 points for just the second time in the Bears’ last 30 games. Knott registered his 19th career game with 10 or more tackles. The Iowa State defense stopped Baylor on a pair of fourth down attempts which were followed by ISU touchdown drives.
Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week
Quinn Sharp, Oklahoma State, PK/P, Sr, Mansfield, Texas
Quinn Sharp tied a school record by hitting all five of his field goal attempts in Oklahoma State’s 36-14 win over TCU. He also had seven touchbacks on nine kickoffs and averaged 43 yards on five punts. Two punts were downed inside the 20 and the longest traveled 59 yards. OSU is second nationally in net punting and has allowed just 32 punt return yards all season.
