South African stars Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel have committed to play in the 2013 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, May 20-26. This marks Oosthuizen’s second Colonial appearance, coming off his tie for 19th place last year. The 2010 British Open winner owns nine other international victories, and placed 10th at the Shell Houston Open earlier this year. Schwartzel is the 2011 Masters champion, making his debut at Colonial. He owns eight international wins, and has two top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour this year. Both players are in the top 10 on the current European PGA Tour money list.
About two-thirds of the field for the event is in place, and many top PGA TOUR champions will be chasing the tournament’s Leonard Trophy and $6.4 million purse. Defending champion Zach Johnson will face several tournament winners from the 2013 season, as well as such popular stars as Jim Furyk, Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan, Vijay Singh, Jason Dufner, John Daly and more. About 132 players are expected to complete the field.
The 2013 tournament winners already joining the event are Scott Brown, Brian Gay, Matt Kuchar, Martin Laird, D.A. Points, Kevin Streelman and Michael Thompson. Additional players of note in the tournament are Bo Van Pelt, Ryan Palmer, Chad Campbell, Lucas Glover, J.J. Henry, Marc Leishman, Geoff Ogilvy, Carl Pettersson, Rory Sabbatini, Jimmy Walker, Boo Weekley and Camilo Villegas.    More player commitments are expected soon.
Johnson won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in 2012 after a dramatic duel with the hot Jason Dufner, who already had two wins in the spring. It was his 8th career win, and his second at Colonial. He then captured his 9th win at the John Deere Classic during the summer. Johnson is the 11th two-time champion at Colonial, and a multiple record holder at the event, so his chances cannot be overlooked at any time in Fort Worth.
Talk about horses for courses – Johnson has never finished worse than 30th at Colonial, owns the 72 hole record of 21 under par, and from 2009-2012 played 15 consecutive rounds under par. His worst round at Colonial was a 73 fired in his very first appear- ance here in 2004.
A few corporate hospitality tickets still remain for the event. Both Pro-Am events are sold out. For more information, visit www.CrownePlazaInvitational.com or call the Colonial Ticket Office at 817.927.4280. One-day tickets for any day, Wednesday
through Sunday, are $45 each. A $15 one-day Youth Ticket for young teens will also be available. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Grounds passes good for the entire week cost $100.
The entire early commitments as of Tuesday, April 23, 2013 is listed on the back side of this sheet.
