Memorial: Kuchar, Schwartzel back up top

We saw at the Byron Nelson that Charl Schwartzel’s game was clicking, he just couldn’t make enough putts. So far at the Memorial, he’s doing just about the same thing. He shot 65 in the opening round but he’s 2-0ver through 12 holes so far today.

And Matt Kuchar, whom we last saw doing his thing where he plays really well just not well enough to win, has a couple more under-par rounds to his credit. Kuchar opened with a 4-under 68 and got his round completed Friday with a cool 70. So Kuchar is currently alone in second place at 6-under, three strokes behind leader Bill Haas.

As far as our Byron Nelson and Colonial winners, neither will be around for the weekend at Memorial. Weekley didn’t make the trip, opting no doubt for fried chicken and sweet tea at the house. Sang-Moon Bae, meanwhile, is 11-over through 36 holes and will be on to his next destination.

Because this is an update involving the sport of golf when Tiger Woods is in the field, I’m pretty sure I’m obligated by federal law to give Tiger’s status (by the way, he’s the only golfer in history that requires hitting Apple+G six times before you find him in a tie for 46th). He’s tied for 46th at 1-over after rounds of 71 and 74. He’ll make the cut so, you know, don’t count him out.
