Renowned author Joel Zuckerman has outdone himself with his newest book Golfers Giving Back- Exceptional Charity Tournaments Coast to Coast.
As a golf professional who has organized and participated in my share of charity golf events over the past four decades I think this is one of the most important golf books I have ever read. Anybody who plays the game needs to have this book.
In the book Zuckerman writes that each year there are over 150,000 charity golf tournaments in the U.S. That breaks down to approximately 380 events per day, or an average of 2,800 annually in every State… 12 million golfers will participate.
Billions of dollars are raised for thousands of worthwhile causes.
The Charity golf tournament is absolutely essential for an uncountable number of causes-in-need, and in many cases is either the sole or most significant avenue of raising critical dollars.
Golfers Giving Back–Exceptional Charity Tournaments Coast to Coast, tells the stories behind some of the finest charity golf events in the nation. Some were initiated more than half a century past. Others are little more than brand new. Many are glitzy, high-profile and high-dollar soirees crawling with celebrities and sports figures. Others are lower-key, heartfelt, and were created in loving memory of a special someone who departed long before their time. All are exceptional.
Within the pages are poignant and powerful stories about the founding and creation of events benefiting children’s hospitals, military organizations, environmental concerns, battered women’s shelters, children’s homes, educational scholarship funds, religious organizations, and finally, inevitably, the heartrending memorial tournaments.
This book is the first of its kind. There are 55 stories in the book and each one is for a worthwhile cause. I think former U.S Ryder Cup Captain and Two time Major Champion Dave Stockton summed it up best in the foreword he wrote for the book
“Each chapter provides a brief, but telling glimpse into the world of that charity golf event. Why it was founded, who was compelled to initiate it, the beneficiaries, and the good it does. The reader will be engaged, informed and inspired by these stories, and their newfound awareness and potential support of these excellent causes can only contribute to the greater good. We’ve all heard the expression, ‘charity begins at home.’ As a professional golfer for more than half-a-century, I firmly believe that while it certainly begins at home, charity continues on the golf course.”
When I finished the book I was so motivated and inspired by the wonderful stories that I went on-line and wanted to donate to everyone of the charities because all of them have such heartfelt and purposeful drive reasons to contribute to their worthwhile cause.
The hardcover book retails for $39.95 and is 220 pages in length. Each chapter is 4 pages long and include either a photo, several photos or tournament logo of each event.  Zuckerman told me that his book has become such a resounding success that he is going to do another one.
