Stars face trade deadline dilemma with Sharpe
The Dallas Stars drowning, in 12th place in the Western
Conference, are eight points out of a playoff berth and seriously
contemplating unloading a full list of upcoming veteran free agents
before the March 1st trade deadline. This is the first time in GM Jim
Nill’s professional hockey career that he is in the sellers mode
instead of adding talent to insure playoff success. After the season
and before the expansion draft, he will then have to take a heavy look
at the veteran roster remaining on the payroll. Stanley Cup Champion
RW Patrick Sharpe, who brought a winning attitude to Dallas after
great success in Chicago, headlines the list of attractive avails. The
question will be where does GM Nill go in return with a trade?
Youthful Goaltending or young potential talent up front as he has
already over committed to an unsuccessful youth movement in
Coach Lindy Ruff along with forwards Patrick Eaves, Ales
Hemsky, Jiri Hudler and defenseman Johnny Oduya probably won’t finish
the season with the Stars.
