As the longest standing member of the NHL Professional Hockey
Writers Association, Dallas Chapter, it was my honor to nominate
Patrick Sharp for the 2017 Bill Masterson Trophy. The trophy is given
each season to the player who displays the attributes of perservence,
sports- manship and dedication to the game of hockey. The last time I
was involved with making the Dallas Chapter selection it was No. 26
Jere Lehtinen, our only Dallas Stars winner. It would be a great
stroke of justice for Sharp to win and then leave the Stars at the end
of the season with his non-compensating free agency. According to
Stars forward,Tyler Seguin, “Sharpie has always been a roll model in
the locker room and on the ice for our entire team.”
The Stars will end the season with a five game Eastern road swing
followed by the three last home games against struggling Western
conference foes. They have officially been eliminated from the
playoffs with their worst record in 32 years.
