Baseball Quartet Records Weekly Awards

TCU’s Evan Skoug and Brian Howard along with West Virginia’s Braden
Zarbnisky and James Cosentino of Kansas have been selected for the
12th set of Big 12 baseball weekly awards. Skoug and Cosentino collect
their second career honors while Howard and Zarbnisky earn their first
weekly award.


Evan Skoug, TCU
Jr., C, Libertyville, Ill.
* Hit .333 (4-for-12) in the sweep of Texas where all four hits
went for extra bases (one double and three home runs) in posting a
1.167 slugging percentage.
* Each hit drove in a run as he totaled a team-leading 6 RBIs.
* In game 1 against the Longhorns, he hit two home runs and drove
in three. His second home run came in the 10th inning, tying the game
at 10 after Texas had taken the lead in the top of the inning.
* In Game 3, his double with two outs in the eighth completed
TCU’s rally from a 3-0 deficit in the Frogs’ 4-3 victory in 10.
Braden Zarbnisky, West Virginia
So., DH/RHP, Marietta, Ga.
* Had a strong week both at the plate and on the mound for the
Mountaineers, leading West Virginia to a 3-2 upset win over No. 4
Texas Tech on Sunday.
* Had a team-best three hits while adding a dominating 3.0 innings
on the mound. He held the Big 12’s best offense to no runs on two hits
with three strikeouts in the win.
* Starting all four games at designated hitter last week,
Zarbnisky led the team with a .500 average, seven hits, four runs
scored and added his first career home run with three RBIs.
Brian Howard, TCU
Sr., RHP, St. Louis, Mo.
* Howard (7-3) was outstanding on the mound for the Frogs on
Saturday, allowing just one hit over eight innings of work.
* Only once while he was on the mound did the Longhorns send more
than four batters to the plate.
* Set the side down in order four times in the game and tallied
four strikeouts to help clinch the series over the Longhorns.
James Cosentino, Kansas
Fr., 2B, Leawood, Kan.
* Paced Kansas to a 5-0 week that included a midweek win over
then-No. 16 Missouri State and a four-game sweep of Texas Southern on
the weekend.
* Was involved in 18 of the Jayhawks’ runs on the week as he drove
in a Big 12-best nine RBIs and touched home nine times – second in the
league only to teammate Matt McLaughlin (10).
* Hit a home run in back-to-back games, drew a team-high six walks
and was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases.
